Sicky

So the last time I blogged I mentioned Liam had thrown up that morning.  Little did I know how sick he really was and the long days we were about to go through.  Now before you think I am a total debbie downer...the posts after this are extremely positive, I promise.  So after Liam had thrown up I noticed he had a crazy high fever and that's when I realized something was going on.  He kept complaining his back was hurting and was very lethargic.  I thought we would wait it out since you can't do much for the flu.  The next night was even worse and he wasn't showing any signs of getting better.  I took him to the doctor and he showed me the inside of his throat, it was coated with white blisters.  He did not once complain about his throat.  The doctor told me he had "hand foot and mouth disease" and that it lasts 5-7 days and all we can do is lots of Tylenol.  He said he should be acting back to normal in a couple days but that it is highly contagious and most likely Colt already has it.  Great.  Two days went by and it was about the same. One night it got so bad.  He hadn't eaten or slept for days and he kept saying his back hurt.  Since the first doctor we saw wasn't his usual pediatrician I was a little worried about what we were up against.  After a horrible night I called Dr Witt at 4 a.m. in a bit of a panic because he was acting so strange and in the middle of the night I thought it could be meningitis.  I explained to Dr Witt what was going on and before even voicing my concern about meningitis he asked if he was awake and to turn his neck side to side and it it was stiff go immediately to primary childrens because he thought it was meningitis.  His neck didn't seem stiff so we decided to wait til 9 when we could go see the dr, seeing as though I was just in the er at primarys and didn't want another 2,000 bill.  Of course by the time we got in to see the doctor Liam was his happy self, giving dr witt bones and flirting with the nurses.  Dr Witt said he immediately felt better seeing him and knowing it wasn't meningitis since he was sure that was what it was leading to.  Long story short, Liam did not have meningitis but he also did not have hand foot and mouth.  Dr Witt thought it was a "super virus" he must have picked up being in the er the week before.  Thank goodness Colt never got it.  It was really hard for both Liam and I to stay home for a little over a week while we tried not to spread his germs.  I am SO glad he is back to his normal self.  Having sick kids is the absolute worst.
The first Day he was sick.  He didn't eat or get off of the couch.  He even napped on the couch.
Getting worse, day of 1st Doctor visit
He was in his bed when I put him down for his nap...
He was so sensitive to light that he rode in the car with his blanket over his head

Once he started feeling better he got pretty creative entertaining himself.  This was him playing fireman, colts walker is his firetruck

Towards the end of his contagiousness Josh had a family party and to spare any other families from catching it Liam stayed home with me.  Colt however went with Josh.  It has been a looonnngg time since Liam and I were home alone and it was so fun to hang out with him.  We made "moon sand" and ordered a pizza.  I could tell how much Liam loved having my full attention and I tried not to do laundry or get on my phone so that I could just enjoy being with him.  The moon sand was a total hit too!

This was in the middle of the worst of it, he had such a great attitude even though he was feeling so crappy.

Adios Mayo

May has been such an up and down month.
Downs:
Hendrix bit Liam
I got a cold then gave it to Josh
Hendrix bit Liam again
Liam fell and cut his lip open
Colt started crawling

Ups:
Ave, Matt, and Lila were here
We got to talk to Charlie
We found our dream house (more on that another day)
 Colt started crawling

Needless to say I am totally welcoming June.  Even with the stomach flu Liam woke up with this morning, I am just grateful to not be getting stitches in him right now.

Liam and Colt are as busy as ever.  Josh and I have been on a major house hunt and have found our dream house that will be blogged about later.  Colt is a total wiggle worm and can get to where he wants to go by rolling, army crawling, or wiggling which has made my laugh much more interesting.

Last week we had an exceptionally busy day and by the end of the day Liam looked like this...
No his hands aren't usually that dirty but after a long sticky day he played side walk chalk and got them even filthier.

It was late, It was hot, I was tired, the kids were gross so I stuck Liam in the bath while Josh fixed the swamp cooler.  I thought I'd better just stick both kids in while I'm at it which can be a circus act by myself.  I doused colt quick and told Liam to stay in til I finished getting Colt ready.  I almost had colt done when I heard Liam say "mom, i'm ready to get out" knowing that if I don't go know he will attempt getting out on his own.  So I ran in, got him in his towel, walked him into his room, and told him to stay there while I finished getting Colt ready.  I was just about to leave Colts room when I heard feet going down the hall and up the stairs..."Liam, get back here!" then a thud and bloody murder screaming.  Liam tripped going up the stairs and put his teeth through his bottom lip/chin.  I yelled to Josh and he came running as I threw a towel on his face to catch all of the blood and grabbed pajamas, seeing as he was still naked.  I called my parents for help with Colt and my Dad came over immediately (one of the perks of living close).  Josh drove while I comforted Liam and since it was 10 at night we figured we would go to primarys.  I called Lisa on the way wondering if they would even stitch is seeing as though the inside was much much worse than the outside.  Spencer answered and said to head to his parents house (his dad, Jeff, Is a periodontist).  When we got there Liam was his usual happy self and Jeff said to take him to his office and he could stitch it.  Liam was really brave and calm while Jeff numbed him but the second he put the first stitch in Liam threw a total fit.  After 45 minutes of fighting him we finally just pinned him down while Jeff put two more stitches on the outside.  Jeff was so sweet with Liam and kept giving him hugs and making him feel calmer.

By the time we got home it was almost midnight and Josh and I were beat.  We gave Liam some Tylenol and put him in bed.  Around 3 a.m. I could hear Liam talking so I went into his room and it was dark and I said it's ok go back to bed buddy.  He said "mom, I took my band aids off."  I flipped the light on and there was blood and stitches all over his face.  I woke up Josh and we decided it couldn't wait.  Josh took Liam up to Primary Children's where they sedated him and re stitched it.  Josh sent me this picture of Liam in recovery and said he couldn't figure out how to get the Popsicle to his mouth and was acting so crazy from the sedation.  They got home at 7 a.m. and Liam was so hyper,  I finally got him to sleep for a couple hours.

The next day he was having a hard time eating and closing his mouth because It got so swollen.  He kept saying "I'm sorry I tripped on the stairs".  If he is anything like his dad I am sure this won't be his last set of stitches but if we could have a break for a while that would be great!

Quarter of a century

Yikes!  Some days I think I'm 25 already, ugh that is old.  Then I think I can't believe I am 25 and have been married for 6 years with two kids I am still soo young!  Josh's family always likes to joke about one year they will remember my birthday because since it always falls around mothers day it usually gets the back burner.  This year my family really tried to make it special for me and It would have been sooo much more enjoyable had I not been deathly ill.

We woke up on my Birthday and Liam laid in my bed with me, I turned and whispered "guess what?  It's my birthday"  Liam just chuckled and kissed me.  We got up and got dressed, I was muddling through the worst cold ever.  It had just been a few days since Liam had his dog bite and as I slipped his shirt over his head he said "hey you hurt my boo boo."  I looked down and saw the glue was gone and his scar was opening so I called the doctor and they told me to come in right away.  They weren't able to glue it back together for risk of infection so they put a few steri strips to hold it together.  When Josh met me there I joked that Moms don't get a day off for illness or taking care of their kids on their birthdays.

My Mom had us over for lunch with Matt, Ave, Lila, and Kim and had picked up tons of yummy food from normandie and an amazing chocolate cake!  Liam loved singing happy birthday to me and blowing out my candles.  By the time we had eaten I was nearly on my death bed and went home and laid in bed for a few hours.  Later that night we went to my new favorite restaurant "cous cous" and they said goodbye to Matt Ave and Lila.  It was so hard to say goodbye to them!

Liam visited Martha and I thought it was so funny to watch him follow her around because he is almost as tall as her. She is 102 years old.

Mothers Day

The Saturday before Mothers Day I had the busiest day at work and into the salon walks the flower delivery guy!  I gave him wide eyes back from my station and he said "you must be Chelsy"...lucky guess!  It has been a looonnngg time since Josh has given me flowers and it seriously made my day!

When I got home from work Josh had the house clean and the kitchen floor mopped, which is very rare for him to pick up and watch the kids and mopping is my least favorite house hold chore.  It was so great!  Later that night after the kids were asleep I had so much food prep to do for the following day and Josh offered to help me (clearly it was a holiday since this has never happened before).  I handed him a sugar cookie bar recipe and he made the whole thing with little  no assistance, cream cheese frosting too!  It was so fun to be cooking together and I think it made him appreciate a little more how much work I put in at home.

Sunday morning we went to Josh's parents house and ate breakfast with his family, which I didn't get a single picture of whoops.

After the boys took short naps we headed to baby Lilas baby blessing.  Oh my goodness did she look beautiful and Matt did a great job giving her a blessing.  Liam loved being at "Matt's parents house" and keeps asking to go back.  We snapped so many pictures but I can't find one with Ave in it!

Four generations

Liam calls this "two babies"

I am so in love with her

After the blessing we went home and changed then headed to my parents house for dinner and the highlight of my day...(no offense Lila you were a close second) Charlies phone call!
He called late, it was 8:00 our time and said he had a few hours!  This time was much calmer with much less crying.  Liam talked to Charlie while I listened in and it was really sweet.  Charlie was very emotional and was trying to ask Liam questions through the tears.  I wish I could remember some of the things they talked about but it was like an adrenaline rush talking to him that I have forgotten what was actually said.  We talked to him on the phone for an hour or so and then we were able to skype!  It was so fun to talk face to face with him and his voice already sounds so different from speaking Spanish all of the time.  When it was time to hang up, around 10:30 things got a little emotional and his companion jumped in the frame saying "It's ok.  No cry.  It's ok.  Hes good missionary!"  It was kind of funny how concerned his companion was that we were crying.  I think it freaked him out!

Josh and Charlie spoke Spanish, it was so fun!  Charlies Spanish sounds really good!

Even though Moms don't get a break and Mothers day is always so stressful for me I really had a good day.  I think talking to Charlie really made me realize it's not about the gifts or food it is about spending time with people you love!  But boy am I glad this years is over!  Two more phone calls!

Liam goes to the dentist

Liam had his first dentist visit in May.  We talked a lot about it before we went and he was so excited.  I kept telling him we were going on a date since it was just us two and he kept asking "mom, is this our date?"  He was so calm and did so well letting the dentist look in his mouth.  It was so cute to see his tiny body on the big dentist chair.  Liam talked about it for the rest of the week and can't wait to go back!
